A Uniform for Gabe

Sometimes it's very easy to forget what luxuries that we have. There's food in our cupboards, a roof over our heads, clothes on our bodies, and our family, however crazy and dysfunctional as it may be, is all together.

A very dear friend of mine is going through a pretty heavy family situation where her new husband is living across the country from her. He joined the Air Force and is stationed in California, but a pretty bitter custody battle is preventing her and her two sons from moving out there with him. She's lonely without her other half, and my heart breaks for her.

Since his step-dad enlisted, my friends youngest son, age seven, has turned smitten with all things Air Force. It's a very bittersweet sight for her, I'm sure. Awhile ago he got some ABU's and for Christmas he received his very own set of personalized Air Force patches to be put on them.

It was my plesure to bust out the sewing machine and sew them on and hopefully, in some small way, bring a husband and a step father home, if only in spirit.

That was such an amazingly simple but HUGELY wonderful gesture. I bet it made him giddy happy. It's so hard to have families split up. I know Amelia gets so upset when Dominic has to leave town for just a day or two. You are an awesome friend!
