The Secret Garden

The other day, on the way home from a wonderful day away from it all, a friend of mine stopped to show  me a wonderful little place nestled behind quite a few long and windy back country roads.

Right there, in the middle of the heartland of Pennsylvania, was one of the most beautiful places that I've ever seen: The Allegheny Mountains Sunken Gardens of Mt. Assisi

The grounds are meticulously cared for by group of Franciscan Friars and each side of the garden is bookended with long stone walls, topped with foliage-covered pergolas. At the center is a large pool filled with koi and goldfish that captures the reflection of the former Charles Schwab limestone mansion, which now serves as the Friary.
Needless to say, with the husband in tow, I went back to this magical place and brought along my camera.

What an absolutely amazing and beautiful place. It looks out of a movie because it's so perfect..and peaceful! To answer your question..no we didn't pet the stingrays at the VA aquarium. Everytime they got close by...they would go too far under the water : ( My favorite exhibit would probably be the large sea turles.
