8 years.
That's how long it's been since I've been a mother. I have you you to thank for that, Brayden. Happy Birthday.
I think as moms we always have a different relationship with our first born child. It's not any less special, but it's more honest and more real.
Together, Brayden, you and I experienced all of the firsts together, including the late nights together that I was completely unprepared for, the diaper blowouts, the bouts of colic, and the screams of teething. On the flip side there was the first time that you every cracked a smile, your first word (even if it was Da-da), and the first time you took wobbly steps all on your own.
Together we made it through the fog of a more than serious bout of post pardum depression, where we would both cry together.
And together we'll get through all of the milestones that I'm sure your adolescence will bring.
When you were 2 we celebrated your birthday on Thanksgiving day. 6 years later, today we'll do it again with a candle in the pumpkin pie. Like your dad (whose birthday is on Christmas Day) you were made to be a holiday baby, too special for just our family to celebrate so you were born surrounded by a time when people all over the world celebrate.
I'm blessed to have you in my life. For 8 years you've brought me more joy than anyone could ever comprehend.
Now let's celebrate!
