Vacation: Had to Get Away

With us just getting back from vacation and getting back into the swing of things, back into the rut of everyday things, I'm finding myself already nostalgic over our vacation. We haven't even been home for a full week yet ... see what kind of a loon I am? But it's not so much the beach and the trip itself that I'm already finding myself missing, it's the freedom that went along with it. On vacation there really isn't any sort of clock or time period that you have to abide by. There is no house to clean, no dishes to do, and no place to cage you in. Time stands still (even if in reality it does seem to slip by) on vacation.

So while I'm glad to be at home and sleeping in my own bed once again, I miss the surprise of what the day will lead to that last week seemed to somehow hold for me. So it's only natural in my crazy reflective state that I flashback to another vacation.

This picture was taken during the summer of 2006. Brayden was only 3 and I was just days shy of five months pregnant with Gage. At that time, though, we were still uncertain as to whether our lil nugget was a girl or a boy and had an ultrasound appointment the day after we got back. If Gage was a girl he would have been Roxanne, which is totally crazy to think about now! Anyways, I grew up in Virginia Beach, Va and lived there from the time I was 2 until I was 10. I miss is so much and have about a zillion amazing memories of that place, so we try and visit it every couple of years or so because it's a place that's ingrained in my history. One tradition for all of our visits, though, is spending the last day that we are in town at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center. Here, Brayden and I are stopping outside of the aviary at one of the photo ops to pose with a dolphin and capture a memory of a very special vacation.

PS: Thank you so much to everyone that commented on and emailed me about yesterdays post. It's a nice feeling knowing that I'm not the only one who has those sorts of struggles and that I have friends who can relate. Your words and encouragement have lifted me up higher than you could all possibly ever even know.

PPS: Brayden is my son's name, not a misspelled word. Get with the times Blogger!
