Love is Black and White

A few weeks ago a few extended family members of mine, the majority of whom I've never even met before, started a facebook group as a way to reach out to reach out to people like myself who are part of the family but have no real knowledge of its legacy and the people who are in it. It's a really fantastic idea and I've been able to learn a lot about where I come from on my mothers side.

My aunt, whom I have always been close to, uploaded lots of pictures from our extended family. Pictures that I have never seen before. Pictures that show my mom and my aunts and uncles childhood and teenage years. Pictures I swiped and saved onto my computer to gaze at and pick out all of the details of. Pictures that are black and white and were taken long before cameras had color.

This is my Nana, looking absolutely beautiful and as close to Elizabeth Taylor as one can get holding my mother as a baby. I don't know why, but for some reason this picture tugs at my heartstrings. Maybe it's my Nana, whom we lost in December of 1999 after a long battle with Cancer. She looks so alive and so young, and healthy. Maybe it's my mom, whose eyes are exactly the same today. Maybe it's the mother-daughter combination of the two.

Aw that is a precious photo. And I feel like that tree is the same exact Christmas tree in "It's a Wonderful Life". Of course I know it can't be, but to me it will be.

That is just flat out gorgeous. You are right, your Nana looks just like Elizabeth Taylor. I think your family is doing an awesome thing, especially since you are able to share memories you might not have ever gotten to share. I wish we had that with my mom's side of the family, but so many of them are gone now and the family never really stayed close :(
