Splish Splash

This is Brayden back when he was four years old, the summer before he stopped being a mommas boy and started being a attentive, learning, educated child.

Ok ok ok, he was all of those things before, but this was picture was taken during a summer vacation trip to visit family of ours near the Va Beach area. We were at the local zoo there, that has this really amazing circle of fountains that shoot jets of water of of the ground near the entrance.

It was hot that day. I'm talking humid, sticky, sweaty, nasty hot. We walked around the zoo in record time, dripping with sweat the entire time and skipping most of the exhibits in a hurry to find some sort of air conditioning.

On the way out of the zoo, slow and sluggish from the heat we all, in a heated (literally!) frenzy decided to walk through the fountain to cool off. We ended up staying and splashing around for awhile, spending more time in the fountain than we did in the actual zoo, and we had the best time just enjoying being silly together and cooling off. Truth is, I don't even remember but about the zoo, but I can recall with perfect clarity splashing in that fountain.

Anyways, when I look at those pictures of us and I see my smiling children I see one of the last summers that Brayden had his sweet round baby face still. As he's gotten older he's thinned out a bit, gotten so much taller, and is growing into more of a young man than that little sweet baby faced boy splashing carefree in the fountain.

Its bittersweet, and I can't wait to play in that fountain once again.

OMG, both of mine LOVE fountains. We have a splash pad at our neighborhood center and they both have the best time running around in the bubbling stream. Don't worry...before you know it the warm weather will be back and you'll have new pics to take of him enjoying keeping cool

Thats an amazing picture, Amanda. You really captured the moment.

There aren't any fun fountains like that here in Abilene. Or maybe there is one downtown somewhere, but, its nothing spectacular. For some reason Eleanore is afraid of sprinklers and the like, so I doubt she'd run through it anyways :(
