Never A Dull Moment

Last weekend was incredible.  But the span of time following it has been anything but pleasant and I could really use a distraction right about now from the sleepiness that is invading my brain.

It's early Tuesday morning right now, just after 7am.  I went to bed at midnight and woke up for good at 5:30.  I was up about 5 times in between too, thanks in part to a mixture of crazy dreams and not being able to breathe.  That makes night number two of no sleep.  Brayden just rolled out of bed while Gage is still fast asleep, and I have a mountain of laundry waiting for me if I'm ever going to pack for our vacation that we are leaving for on Friday.  I promised the boys I'd take them to the playground this afternoon as well, but judging from the black skies and the plops of the rain hitting the sidewalk outside of my window, that idea is looking pretty grim.  It's already shaping up to be one of those days.

Very early Monday morning, at right around 3am I was woken up from a dead sleep by an incredibly loud bang.  Of course, Mike slept right through it.  Needless to say I freaked out and attempted to wake him up, which is no easy task, let me tell you.  When Mike looked out the window there was a car smashed into the tree directly outside of our bedroom.  He ran out to see if anyone was hurt while I called 911.  As it turns out the driver of the car, who I can only imagine was drunk, ditched the smashed car and made a run for it.

I, quite literally, live in the middle of nowhere.  There is nothing but woods and trees and fields surrounding me, so this fool had plenty of places to run and hide, while I freaked out because there was a nut job loose in the woods somewhere around my house and who knows if this idiot was going to try and come back for his car.  Meanwhile, we had tons of police, firemen, EMT's, Paramedics, and a flatbed tow truck here, while Mike and I looked on, bewildered, standing in the rain and giving our statements.  It made for a very long night/morning.  (As of yesterday they had caught a passenger who was in the car ... but that person is in the hospital unconscious right now, which I guess happens when you hit a tree head on.)

A lot of people ask my why I have the faith that I do and why I so adamantly believe in God.  That tree was maybe 10 feet away from the front of my house.  If is hadn't been there, that car would have crashed right into my house and through my bedroom, where Mike and I were fast asleep.  That tree was grown there for a reason.  It certainly saved our home and it quite possibly saved our lives.

Today, I'm sick with a cold/sinus infection, brought on most certainly from standing outside in my pajamas in the cold rain early Monday morning.  I'm taking a bunch of medicine in some sort of feeble attempt at feeling better because my todo list is a mile long. even though all I really want to do is the one thing I haven't been able to since this whole mess happened - sleep.

Anyways, like I said before, Father's Day weekend was great.  We did so much.  On Friday the boys wrapped up Vacation Bible School with a little performance.  Our little town had a small festival, complete with a petting zoo that the boys adored.  And Mike and I broke out the camera to take some beautiful Summer shots up and around where we live.  And after this crazy intense post here, I think it's high time for some cuteness in the form of a picture overload.
