I See You

Little Boy, if all if takes is a new book to make you this happy then I'll gladly stockpile them for you, floor to ceiling.  I see you there flipping the pages of Thomas the Tank Engine Goes on an Easter Egg Hunt and peeling off the stickers so carefully and then placing them right where you see fit, your imagination running wild.  I see the happy little boy that you are now and I see what you will become.

I see you next year in pre-k, making even more friends than your charismatic self already has and gaining a new found Independence now that you're doing something on your own for the very first time in your young life.

I see you at age 8, the age your big brother, Brayden is right now.  Where he's interested in science and history I think you'll excel with words.  You've always loved books.  When you were just a toddler you would sit and flip through the pages and admire the illustrations and the colors.  I see this passion of yours and I hope it's life long.

I see you at age 13, starting to care about the clothes you wear and how you style your hair as you stand on the precipice between boyhood and manhood.  We'll argue and we'll fight.  But I'll always love you and I'll always be doing what is best for you, even when you don't see it that way.  And you won't, but that's just because you're young even though you'll think that you are not.

I see you at age 16, tinkering in the garage with your dad on the car we'll buy for you.  It's old and broken and we paid next to nothing for it.  But if you want it, you'll build it from the ground up yourself.  And you'll have a newly found respect for it.

I see you at age 18, walking across a high school stage in a cap and gown and the world at your finger tips.  I have no doubt that you'll choose to do something amazing with you life and that you'll be happy.  Whether that means going to an ivy league college and becoming a doctor or a lawyer or taking off to a third world country to do mission work I don't know, but you'll be happy.  And your smile will be brighter than the sun.

I see you, Little Boy.  And even though you might not always know it, your joy is my joy and will forever be.

AH! It's too early to cry in my Lucky Charms. This is why I love your blog. He will adore this post someday. I do!
