A Diamond in the Rough

Much to my delight as I checked my email this morning I saw the usual Pottery Barn message tucked between a few messages from Barack Obama and MoveOn.org. Ahhh a diamond in the rough! Not to say that I'm not majorly concerned with the election and all of that jazz, or course I am or I wouldnt be on democratic mailing lists... but this morning amist all of the school hype I just needed some good old fashioned computer generated window shopping!

I SO want this night stand! I mean, I seriously need it in my life! But at $229.99 dollars (marked down from $299.00!!) for a freaking nightstand there is no way on earth that I'll ever own such a thing - anyways, I can go to goodwill and pick up a crapper bedside stand and head on up to Lowes for some sandpaper and white paint and bada bing - I'll have the same thing for fifteen bucks... but hey, I need another project like I need a hole in my head .... which means I'll probally end up at goodwill this weekend :-)

Just thought I'd share a little mainstream inspiration for a small time weekend project with you all. ♥

OMG, we share a brain. When I saw the photo and before I read your remarks, I thought, "That's sooooo pretty. But Pottery Barn? Really? Couldn't you pick that up on a curb somewhere?"

And then I thought, "I wonder if I could find something similar at Savers, and dry brush it white, and sand it a little..."

hahahahaha. We may end up with twin nightstands.

So lovely, my husband just whitewashed my desk for the office. Thanks, for the inspiration.

No, you can't pick that up on the curb OR at Goodwill OR at Salvation Army. I've looked. I've looked for the perfect nightstand at garage sales too, it just isn't there. I've got the paint colors picked out, the sandpaper ready, and the stripper ready, but alas, the perfect nightstand only exists at Pottery Barn.

Ah well, I suppose I'll use my supplies on the nightstand I'm trying to replace and on the hooser I've adopted from my mom.

I love that night stand... but I just can't bear the price of Pottery Barn. I'm a huge Goodwill store fan, however! Always something to revamp there!

I'm still in desperate need of a Goodwill in my area. I'm stuck with trying to find "curbside specials"...I make out with some good finds but all to infrequently!

We're homebodies this Holiday weekend and I'm THRILLED to be tackling some of my own little projects!

Have fun!

That is a sweet nightstand for sure. :)
The hubs and I have been redoing an old dresser from the 1800s, originally of a beautiful walnut, that someone painted over time and again. I'll post pix when we're done.

It's a bit of work, but the effort is worth it instead of paying PB for their over-inflated pieces of "hard wood".
